Leesville United Methodist Church       August 29, 2010

Have you enjoyed the cooler days recently? Maybe you’ve had a chance to get out on the water. As a kid, ponds and lakes are so much fun for skimming stones. Every once in awhile, a stone doesn’t skip and winds up with a big “plunk” in the water that starts a ripple of rings. Our actions are kind of like those ripples. One good deed starts the ripple…leading others to share the kindness far beyond you!

We’ve been starting lots of ripples this week at Leesville UMC! We were able to feed over ninety people through the meal we prepared for Operation Reachout! Thanks to everyone who made this possible!

There was a good turnout for the Scouting Kickoff! Everyone enjoyed the games and activities! Five new scouts were signed up, but there’s still room for you! Contact Pat Barr or the church office for more information!

We had a great day of worship Sunday! Reverend Sandra’s message was about “Paying Forward” our many blessings! Christ has given us a gift we could never earn or pay back…salvation! As we pay it forward this week…may we share our blessings and the good news with others!

The 5th Sunday Fellowship Breakfast was delicious! We would like to thank the PPRC and Trustees for sponsoring this great event! During breakfast, we enjoyed a slideshow presentation created by Pat Barr of our steeple replacement. Thanks, Pat!

This Sunday was “Promotion Sunday”. It’s a time when our children graduate from one Sunday school class to another. It’s also a time to present our third graders with Bibles from their church family. Pam Hawfield, Sunday school superintendent, presented a Bible to Andrew Sanders this Sunday. We pray that Bible will guide Andrew’s steps in the years to come! We would like to thank all of our Sunday school teachers for their dedicated service. Thanks also to Pam Hawfield and Joyce Barr for managing the Sunday school office!

On Friday, September 3rd, LUMC will host the Life Line Screenings…five screenings will be offered to scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries. Take advantage of this preventative screening by calling 1-888-653-6441 to schedule your appointment. The cost is $139 and takes 60-90 minutes to complete.

This coming Sunday will be the first Sunday of the month. We have the privilege to share our many blessings with those in our community through the Christian Ministry Center. Don’t forget to bring food and non-perishable items to help those in need!

Sunday, September 5th is the deadline to donate items for our Second Annual Silent/Live Auction. Simply bring your item to the church library and complete the donation sheet. Then, make sure you get tickets and join us for this exciting event on Saturday, September 25th beginning at 5pm. Thanks in advance for your support!

We’re so excited to be able to enjoy another “Saturday Nite Alive” music night on Saturday, September 11th at 7pm in the sanctuary. Come enjoy singing your favorites. There is no cost…it promises to be a great evening of fun!

The United Methodist Men look forward to their fellowship breakfast Sunday, September 12th at 7:45am in the fellowship hall. Make plans to join them and bring a friend!

The United Methodist Women are planning a luncheon on September 12th to honor grandparents on “Grandparents Day”. Watch for more details.

The Praise Band will be bringing the music for worship on Sunday, September 19th during the 9am service. Hope to see you then!

In the Twin-City News this past week, beautiful Caleigh and Ava Watson were pictured as Ava’s birth was announced. Congratulations to proud parents, Jeph and Lauren Watson!

Well, that’s the news for another week! We’d love to have you join us for worship on Sunday mornings…9am casual and an 11am traditional service. For all the happenings of the week, visit us on the web to check out our calendar of events at www.leesvilleumc.com. For more information, contact the church office at 532-3817. This week remember…the things we do today for others will have far reaching effects! Look for those opportunities this week!
